Carer payments

Carers are entitled to receive foster care "reimbursements" (payments) until the end of the school year the young person turns 18. For example, if the young person turns 18 in April, foster care payments continue until November.

School

In situations where DHS has been paying school fees and associated costs for a young person who will turn 18 prior to completing their high school education, agreement can be obtained (and written into the Case Plan) for the payments to continue until the young person completes Year 12 or equivalent.

CSO Support

The usual support from the agency should continue through this period. Some programs in agencies may continue to work with the young person until they have established themselves e.g. in housing, jobs etc.
