Neglect involves a failure to provide the child with an adequate standard of nutrition, medical care, clothing, shelter or supervision to the extent that the health and development of the child or young person are significantly impaired or placed at risk.
Deprivation and Neglect: Children who have been raised in an environment with very little developmental, intellectual or emotional stimulation may suffer many adverse consequences including growth failure, health problems, developmental and intellectual delay, emotional and behavioural problems.
In general, management involves rectifying the home environment, to provide stimulating, nurturing, and responsive care.
Medical assessment and mental health care is recommended.
