What is Foster Care

Foster Care is the temporary care of a child or young person, (birth-17 years) within a home environment, when they cannot live with their parents. It can be for a few days, a few weeks, or longer. Wherever possible the aim is to eventually reunite the child/young person with their birth family, providing this is in their best interest.National Foster and Kinship Care Conference 2012
